I find it difficult to find a satisfying dessert place in Brisbane; there aren’t a lot of options, and scanning the end tail of a random restaurant’s menu can be rather disheartening. A friend of mine suggested Shlix on Brunswick Street several weeks ago after an evening’s session of food-abuse. This ice-creamery never fails to please and is your one stop-shop for a quick shot of sweet and icy.
Covering a range of creamy and sorbet flavours, this icy haven may not look like much from it’s exterior – but don’t let that fool you. The ingredients are fresh (real mint in your After Dinner Mint!), low-fat, and the flavours are delectable. Made on-site each day, from your original vanilla bean and premium dark chocolate, to forrero rocher and creme brûlée, the scoops taste real, are not too sweet and are all but artificial which is a perfect finish to your hearty meal.
Everything is made out the back – not in a factory – and you’ll never get a bad scoop. I’ve been here 3 times in the last 6 weeks and many more times before starting this blog. Ice-cream is not just ice-cream at Shlix! You can really compare the difference with other chains throughout Brisbane and is well worth the visit!
Milkshakes and salads ($7.20 for a small) are also on offer – the latter being a newish weekday addition for those of you Brunswick-Street-working-bees (available 1130-1530). Pick a leaf or pasta base then choose up to 5 toppings. Note – during this time, the ice-cream flavours on display are reduced.
Want some celebratory Shlix to take home? Order an ice-cream cake ($35-$75) for some Macca’s birthday memories from your childhood (but are guaranteed to be way better).
I encourage you to try Shilx out for yourself if you haven’t already. One of my friends had a chat to the owner a few months back and described him as a passionate ice-cream lover, developing the flavours himself to ensure that they really are the best before releasing them. I think at the time, coconut had just been introduced to the freezer!
