Helping Brisbanites find the perfect food-fix

coffee or champagne with . Lady Lamington .

When I first heard of and saw Lady Lamington on Brunswick Street, it’s girly French-vintage look invited itself into my Top Ten To-Trys. Curious about this church’s transition from water and wine to coffee and champagne, friends had me hopeful whilst online reviews made me apprehensive. However, I’d heard breakfast was promising so I went with high hopes and expectations.

The food is fancy French with options like ‘croque monsieur’, ‘boudin noir’ (blood sausage) and ‘beurre noisette’. No bacon here (at least on weekdays) piggies! Unfortunately, the food appears to be a little hit and miss with our options being of a less-than-average standard for what was expected (simple melted cheese and ham, and a mushroom option lacking that extra-something of flavours and freshness). The coffee (Black Sheep) was nothing special but not bad. LL’s other menu options for dinner and lunch sound interesting and, despite this initial experience, am willing to go back and give the menu another go.

Sadly, the service was also average and I left Lady Lamington feeling a little deceived by the fun and welcoming decor. Visually, this place has its draw card with a cute, French femininity and fun retro feel. Sugary pink and yellow brick counters, white furnishings mixed with a statement chandelier give off a girly mix of beach / classic vintage. Opt for a table with your group, alone with the paper at the high bar or comfy cushioned window seating for a more at-home feel. Alfresco dining is also available on the roof. With plenty of streaming sunlight in the all right (indoor) places, don’t forget to bring your sunnies.

So all in all I was a little disappointed with my experience however, I am still hopeful. Please let me know your experiences and suggestions in the comments below!
