A busy restaurant is a good sign and Little Greek Taverna, on the corner of Browning and Boundary Streets in West End, is no exception. Great for a casual lunch/dinner date with a small group of friends, this place has everything you’re looking for – simple, cheap, and tasty – and has quickly gained popularity as one of Brisbane’s top choices for a Greek food fix.
With a recently updated menu, there is plenty of meat and haloumi to go around but before making a decision, check what’s on special. The food is simple and traditional with a home-cooked feel and comes out quick. Haloumi ($8), dolmades ($13.50), lamb souvla ($15) and moussaka ($13.50) make for more than enough for two and all are fresh, delicious and good quality dishes. Vegetarian options are also available.
In terms of service, the waitress has just become your new best friend. Their aim is for ‘prompt, consistent and outstanding customer service‘ and this little restaurant achieves exactly that. The staff are personable, friendly and fun; if they weren’t so busy you’d wish you could sit around and chat with them all day!
Little Greek Taverna is decked out in a modern white and green fitting; the colours are symbolic of the north of Greece (think mountains and agriculture) and rivals the traditional blue and white southerners down the road. With more outside than inside seating, this busy little restaurant wraps around the corner and is great for people-watching. Even with the heaters it can get quite chilly, especially at night, so be sure to wear your winter woollies and rug up.
Note: This place is BYO only so no alcohol is available however the Melbourne Hotel around the corner or Archive down the street both have bottle shops within a two minute walking distance.
